A Fall Evening on the Farm
Share
In early October, photographer Alice Nguyen came out to the farm for a photoshoot. Alice and I first met at The Wild Roses Festival this summer and have been planning this collaboration ever since, waiting for the perfect fall light.
The evening couldn’t have been more beautiful. It was one of those crisp Alberta nights where the air smells faintly of woodsmoke and the light turns everything golden. We wandered through the woods, leaves crunching underfoot, looking for the horses who were way out back catching the last rays of sun. As Alice joked, horses are like toddlers when it comes to getting the perfect shot — full of personality, curiosity, and zero interest in standing still.
Between laughter and windblown hair, we managed to capture some lovely moments featuring The Alder Vest (coming soon), The Aspen Lace Button-Up, and The Woodland Sweater in Peat. These are pieces that are light enough for layering in fall, warm enough to wear all winter, and timeless enough to last for years.

The Value of Creative Collaboration
One of my favourite parts of running Marty Lynn is getting to work with other creative people like Alice, who approach their craft with the same care and curiosity that I bring to mine. These collaborations aren’t transactional. They’re rooted in trust, friendship, and mutual respect for the work each of us does. I’ve often traded sweaters for photography, product for art, or labour for skill, and there’s something deeply grounding about that. Supporting each other through shared craft and exchange, rather than competition, makes for strong communities.
There’s real value in that kind of economy. It’s not about saving money; it’s about building relationships. Every collaboration helps strengthen the web of local makers, farmers, and artists who believe in doing things by hand and doing them well. It’s a reminder that creative work, when shared, creates more beauty, not less.

The Pieces
These are the pieces featured in this shoot:
- The Alder Vest (coming soon) — a classic addition to the Marty Lynn core collection, made from 100% undyed Canadian wool.
- The Aspen Lace Button-Up — a feminine, textured layer that pairs beautifully with denim or linen.
- The Woodland Sweater in Peat — one of my most-loved designs, timeless and made to live in.
Each one is made-to-order in my tiny home studio from Canadian wool that’s grown, milled, and knit right here on the Prairies.
Creative collaborations like this one remind me why I started Marty Lynn in the first place — to connect, create, and celebrate the people and land that make these garments possible.
