Meet Jillian Barvir, Founder of Marty Lynn

I was raised a suburban girl with a rural heart. As I grew older, life became noisier and more complicated, and I found myself drawn to quieter places and simple, hands-on work. This led me to small-scale farming after university, building a tiny home with my partner, growing my own food, making my own skincare, and crafting my own garments.

It has always mattered to me to know where my food comes from, what I am putting in and on my body, who I am working for, and what impact that work has on my local community and the land.

I also care deeply about beauty. When we see, touch, taste, or smell something that feels good, it has a real effect on us, both physically and mentally. That belief has shaped many of the choices I have made, including what I wear.

In my twenties, I began sewing my own wardrobe, working exclusively with natural materials. That path led me to wool, one of the only fibres still grown and processed in Canada for garment making. As I began sourcing locally, I connected with farmers across the prairies who are tending to the land in thoughtful ways, using sheep to help restore soil and bring life back to the fields.

That is when it all clicked. I realized I could help support these farmers by working directly with their wool, and in doing so, create beautiful garments for my community that are both natural and traceable.
