Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the inspiration behind the name of your company?
Marty Lynn is named after my beloved mother, who taught me to sew and shared her love of crafting. I have fond memories of going to the fabric store with her, picking out patterns, and working on projects together. I remember playing in her craft room, sewing scraps of fabric into unique outfits. Though life pulled me away from creating for a while, those memories always stayed with me. The lessons she passed down—like taking care of your health, spending time in nature, appreciating quality, and celebrating life—are now at the heart of Marty Lynn. After her passing in 2017, I knew her spirit and values had to be part of this brand, which is why I named it in her honour.
Where do you source your wool?
Our wool is primarily sourced from farms on the Canadian Prairies, with some additional fibres from Atlantic Canada and the northern United States. We’ve partnered with Custom Woolen Mills in Alberta and MacAusland Woollen Mills in P.E.I., which source wool from these regions. Currently, the mills we work with handle sourcing the fleece, but we are working on building strong relationships with local regenerative farmers who prioritize animal welfare and land stewardship so that we can source fleece directly from them in the future.
What are the benefits of wearing wool?
Temperature Regulation: Wool keeps you warm in cold weather and cool in warmer conditions, providing natural insulation and moisture-wicking.
Breathability: Wool allows air to circulate and absorbs moisture without feeling damp, keeping you dry and comfortable.
Durability: Wool is resilient and long-lasting, making it a sustainable wardrobe choice.
Odor Resistance: Its natural antimicrobial properties resist the growth of odor-causing bacteria, allowing you to wear wool garments multiple times between washes.
Moisture-Wicking: Wool absorbs up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp, keeping you dry.
Fire Resistance: Wool is naturally flame-resistant, offering added safety.
Eco-Friendly: Wool is renewable, biodegradable, and breaks down without leaving harmful waste.
UV Protection: Wool naturally absorbs UV rays, providing some sun protection.
Hypoallergenic: Wool is less likely to cause allergic reactions, making it a good choice for sensitive skin.
Style and Versatility: Wool’s timeless look, excellent drape, and wrinkle resistance make it suitable for all occasions.
Where are your sweaters made?
Our sweaters are made by me, Jillian Barvir, using my flatbed manual knitting machine and hand-knitting techniques in my tiny home studio on our family farm near Onoway, Alberta.
Why is your knitwear more expensive?
Creating a garment is a labour-intensive process that involves multiple skilled steps—from tending to sheep and shearing their wool to carefully cleaning, carding, spinning, and knitting each piece. We believe everyone involved in this process deserves fair compensation for their expertise and care. In contrast, mass-produced sweaters are often made from synthetic fibres with harmful dyes, produced in low-wage factories, and shipped globally with little regard for quality or environmental impact.
When you purchase from us, you’re investing in a high-quality piece crafted with natural materials and supporting local farmers, artisans, and ethical practices. Your choice helps keep money within our community, fosters skilled craftsmanship, and reduces environmental impact, ensuring that each garment not only lasts but also contributes positively to the world around us.
How long will it take for my item to ship?
Since all our products are made-to-order, I aim to ship them within 7 days of purchase via Canada Post or UPS. If for any reason I can’t meet that timeline, I’ll contact you personally.
When will an item be back in stock?
If demand exceeds what I can produce within 7 days, I will mark items as "sold out" until I catch up with current orders. You can enter your email on the product page to be notified when the item becomes available again.

What makes your products sustainable?
We avoid the term "sustainable" and prefer to clearly communicate the ethics behind our products so you can make informed choices.
Natural, Non-Toxic Fibres: Our yarn is 100% wool, either in its natural color (sheep-shade) or dyed with foraged, plant-based dyes. Using only natural fibers and dyes means no harmful substances are absorbed through your skin or released into the environment.
Renewable and Biodegradable: Wool is a renewable resource, as sheep regrow their fleece each year. It’s also biodegradable, breaking down naturally without leaving harmful waste, unlike synthetic fibres that persist in the environment.
Carbon Sequestration: Wool production supports carbon sequestration, with well-managed grazing helping capture carbon in the soil.
Water Conscious: Wool garments require less frequent washing, saving water and reducing energy use compared to synthetic fabrics.
Commitment to Slow Fashion: Our garments are crafted to be timeless and durable, embracing the principles of slow fashion. We prioritize quality over quantity, creating pieces designed to last and encouraging mindful consumption.
Local sourcing and reduced emissions: We source our yarn from Canadian mills, Custom Woolen Mills and MacAusland Woollen Mills, supporting skilled craftsmanship close to home. Partnering with local mills strengthens the local textile economy and reduces emissions associated with long-distance transportation.
Carbon-Neutral Shipping with Shopify Planet: We’re proud to partner with Shopify Planet and have chosen their Millennium Plan, which offsets 1,000 kg of CO₂ for every tonne of shipping emissions. This program supports impactful environmental initiatives, such as reforestation and soil carbon sequestration, ensuring that the emissions from shipping your order are not only balanced but significantly surpassed. By selecting this plan, we’re reinforcing our commitment to giving back to the environment and supporting a healthier planet for future generations.
Zero-Waste Production: Each piece is made-to-order, reducing excess production, while any wool scraps from our process are composted, returning nutrients to the soil. Even our packaging is biodegradable, ensuring that every aspect of your purchase leaves as little impact as possible.
Commitment to Transparency: We believe in full transparency. Our website clearly outlines each stage of production—from farm to mill to artisan—allowing you to trace the journey of your garment and understand how it was made.
