Meet Traceable Textiles

Traceable Textiles is an Edmonton-based weaving studio working to create more value for Alberta wool. They work directly with local farms, mills and makers to turn wool grown here into beautiful yarn and handwoven blankets that can be traced back to the farm they came from.

It starts at the farm

The wool for the Parkland Collection begins on family-run farms across Alberta. Traceable Textiles buys the fleeces directly from farmers, then sorts and grades the wool by hand before taking it to Custom Woolen Mills.

Grown and milled in Alberta

Once the fleeces have been selected and blended, they travel to Custom Woolen Mills in southern Alberta to be washed, carded and spun. The natural shades of the sheep become the cream, grey and deep brown wool used throughout the collection.

The same wool, a new form

Traceable Textiles originally developed this wool for their handwoven Parkland blankets. This collaboration takes the same Alberta-grown yarn from loom to knitting machine, showing the versatility of the fibre grown right here in Alberta.

Why we came together

I wanted to work with Shannon because Traceable Textiles is doing the kind of work I believe our local textile industry needs more of: creating real value for Alberta wool and building stronger connections between farmers, mills and makers. This collaboration came from a shared belief that Alberta wool is worth using, and that there is so much more we can make with the fibre grown here.
