Description

Eucalan Delicate Wash is a no-rinse wash for wool, alpaca, hand knits, and other delicate fabrics. It can be used for handwashing or in a top or front loading washing machine, making it a simple way to care for the pieces you want to keep wearing for years.

Made by a Canadian, family-run, women-led business, Eucalan’s formula gently releases dirt into the wash water without needing a final rinse. As a small amount of the wash remains in the fibres, the lanolin helps condition and fortify woolens and knits, while also helping reduce static.

Some of Eucalan’s scented washes are made with pure essential oils that are naturally antibacterial or moth-inhibiting. These benefits are intended to remain in the fibres after washing, which makes Eucalan especially useful for wool sweaters, blankets, lingerie, swimwear, and seasonal pieces that are packed away between wears.

Although this is a small 100ml bottle, it is concentrated enough for approximately 20 hand washes. Because wool and alpaca knits do not need to be washed after every wear, one bottle can last a long time. I generally only wash my own knits once or twice a year, unless they truly need it.

Eucalan is also convenient for travel, small spaces, and conserving water. If you still prefer to rinse your garments, it is safe to do so, though rinsing may reduce the lasting benefits of the lanolin and essential oils.

Care Instructions

  • Fill a basin with tepid water. Avoid hot water, as heat can cause wool to felt or shrink.
  • Add 1 tsp / 5ml of Eucalan per 1 gallon / 4L of water.
  • Place your garment in the water and gently press it down until fully saturated.
  • Let soak for at least 15 minutes.
  • Gently squeeze the garment in the water to help the wash move through the fibres. Do not scrub, twist, or wring.
  • No rinse is needed. Eucalan is designed to remain lightly in the fibres, where the lanolin helps condition wool and natural fibres.
  • Remove the garment from the water and gently squeeze out excess moisture.
  • Roll the garment in a clean, dry towel and press to remove more water.
  • Lay flat to dry on a towel or drying rack, reshaping the garment as needed.
  • Dry away from direct sunlight or heat.
  • For wool and alpaca knits, wash only when needed. I generally wash my own knits once or twice per year, usually before storing them away for the season.
