Description

Hand crocheted in Alberta using undyed alpaca yarn from Providence Lane Homestead, the Coralroot Halter was designed for those who want to wear clothing made with materials grown closer to home. While cotton and linen are often considered summer staples, neither is grown nor produced at scale in Canada. Animal fibres remain one of the few textile materials available from local farms, making this piece a celebration of what can be grown, processed, and made within our own communities.

The halter takes its name from the Coralroot orchid, a native wildflower found on the regenerative grazing lands of Providence Lane Homestead. Unlike many plants, Coralroot lacks leaves and draws much of its energy through an intricate relationship with the fungi and trees around it. Its presence is often considered a sign of a healthy, interconnected ecosystem. In many ways, it reflects the values behind this garment: local relationships, working with what the land provides, and creating something beautiful from systems that support one another.

Designed to pair with summer skirts and trousers, the alpaca fibre is soft against the skin, while a crocheted pearl cord tie helps keep the straps secure throughout the day.

As with all animal fibres, those with sensitive skin may find it more comfortable to wear nipple covers underneath.
